The site of this 2-unit micro home can be considered invisible, though not in a traditional way. Buried in the leftover space of an urban block, many will pass by or under and hardly register that the house exists. Inspired by Ralph Ellison’s novel Invisible Man - and Jeff Wall’s interpretation of the prologue - the project is an attempt to give form to invisibility and the visibility which is therefore critical as a counterpoint. The house explores using volumes, layers, and thresholds to withdraw into itself and give a sense of security to the dweller. The house is first and foremost an investigation of identity, privacy, and autonomy.
